Women’s heart health
Women’s heart health is a special area of research at Geisinger, because women have unique needs. Women and men often experience heart attack symptoms differently. Women also have a different set of risk factors for heart disease than men.
Our women’s heart health research is focused on identifying risk factors for women and helping them prevent heart disease.
Why choose Geisinger for women’s heart health care?
- Expertise and training: Geisinger cardiologists and cardiac surgeons all know that heart disease can present differently in women than men. We train all care providers to recognize the symptoms of heart attacks in women.
- Groundbreaking research: We are actively researching new areas in women’s heart health. Work at Geisinger has led to discoveries about the link between pregnancy complications (especially high blood pressure) and heart disease later in life.
- Leader in women’s heart health: We are the region’s leading program for women’s heart health, having received numerous research grants. Our goal is to help as many women as possible prevent heart disease.
