Pediatric orthopaedics

Our pediatric orthopaedic surgeons have specialized training to diagnose and treat bone, joint and muscle problems in children. They have the know-how to care for a wide range of childhood orthopaedic conditions, including physical abnormalities, injuries, infections and tumors.

We help children lead active lives with less pain. We treat children in a relaxed, child-centered setting, with care often available in a convenient clinic location close to your home. Child-life specialists provide meaningful distractions for children during treatment.

Why choose Geisinger for pediatric orthopaedic care?

  • Leaders in treating trauma: Our large trauma team is available 24 hours a day. The team is among the region’s best at evaluating and treating injuries, from minor to life threatening. These injuries include:
    • Sprains
    • Broken bones
    • Ligament tears
    • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Innovative sports medicine program: With the region’s largest sports medicine program, we are dedicated to keeping young athletes of all levels at the top of their game. We treat all types of injuries and ensure athletes recover properly so they can avoid future complications, such as osteoarthritis. Equally important is our emphasis on injury prevention and wellness.
  • Correction of physical abnormalities: Our pediatric orthopaedic specialists have extensive experience correcting physical abnormalities, including:
    • Scoliosis and spinal deformities: We offer Renaissance robotic technology to plan and perform highly accurate and safe scoliosis surgery. Our approach results in better outcomes, shorter hospital stays and quicker recoveries for children.
    • Hip dysplasia and other hip conditions: We use the least invasive treatments possible, from arthroscopic procedures to complex reconstruction, to effectively correct common childhood hip conditions.
    • Alignment concerns in legs and feet: Working with other specialists, we can effectively treat conditions in the legs and feet that impact quality of life. Using Ponseti casting, a series of casts that changes the structure of the foot, we can nearly eliminate some deformities.
  • Custom orthotics and casting: Our specialty orthotics program uses computer analysis to create custom orthotics. These devices correct deformities and improve physical alignment. We also create custom casts, braces and helmets to treat a wide variety of conditions.
