Renal artery disease
Renal artery disease (or renal artery stenosis) is the narrowing of arteries that carry blood to one or both of the kidneys. This can worsen over time and lead to high blood pressure or kidney failure.
What you should know about renal artery disease
- Common surgical procedures used to treat renal artery disease include angioplasty, surgery or renal artery stenting. These can help improve blood flow.
- The body can sense less blood reaching the kidneys and misread that as the body having low blood pressure. This causes the body to release hormones from the kidney that increase blood pressure, which can lead to kidney failure as well.
