Genetic factors related to obesity
Association of Genetic Variants in Obesity Genes to Resistance Weight Loss and Susceptibility to Metabolic Syndrome in Morbidly Obese Patients
The purpose of this study is to determine if variations in several obesity related genes are associated with the ability to lose weight, the development of metabolic syndrome, and/or other clinical parameters in morbidly obese patients. The primary goal is to analyze the perilipin gene, for which several variants have been found to be associated with insulin resistance and the ability to lose weight on different diets. The secondary goal is to investigate additional candidate obesity gene variations and there association with clinical parameters.
