DANVILLE, Pa. -- Marc S. Williams, M.D., director of Geisinger’s Genomic Medicine Institute, has been elected a Fellow in the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI).

ACMI is a professional society of elected Fellows from the United States and abroad who have made significant and sustained contributions to the field of medical informatics and who have met rigorous scholarly scrutiny by their peers.

The term informatics broadly describes the study and practice of creating, storing, finding, manipulating and sharing information.

Dr. Williams’s wide expertise includes the application of genetics/genomics in clinical care; the use of information technology in point-of-care education and clinical decision support; dissemination and implementation science; quality improvement and the economics of health care delivery.

Suzanne Bakken, ACMI President congratulated Dr. Williams “on this worthy achievement which represents recognition by your peers of your significant contributions to the field of informatics.”

Dr. Williams will be inducted into the College at a ceremony Nov. 13.
