Geisinger is dedicated to giving back and supporting local communities. And Geisinger family members help carry out that commitment by taking part in volunteer opportunities that benefit the communities where they live and work. To Geisinger employees, advancing the health and well-being of their neighbors isn’t just part of their jobs, it’s part of their values — and those of Geisinger.

A prime example of a strong commitment to community service is the work of Dan Landesberg, administrative director of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, and interim administrative director of Geisinger Marworth Treatment Center. Dan understands the importance of giving back.

Giving back to communities throughout NEPA

As a board member for Luzerne County Head Start and Luzerne County Community College, Dan supports education at all levels. He’s also an advisory council member for Leadership Wilkes-Barre. In 2018 he was recognized by the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce as its NEPA Influencer of the Year as part of its annual Young Professionals Awards.

“We all have demanding schedules, but when we make time to invest in the community, we show that our involvement is a priority,” said Dan. “It’s up to all of us to deliver on the values we embody as an organization.”

Dan stays true to his words by actively participating in a variety of Geisinger-sponsored community initiatives. Whether he’s running in the Scranton Half Marathon or Marworth Clean and Sober Fun Run, walking in the NEPA Heart Walk, playing in the GWV Golf Tournament or donating to Geisinger’s annual United Way Campaign, he’s always looking for ways to engage with the community.

When given the opportunity, he jumped at the chance to volunteer at the first-ever Rockin’ the River concert series in downtown Wilkes-Barre this past summer. Because Geisinger was a sponsor, Dan had the opportunity to introduce the main act at one of the three concerts in the series. “Not only did we have an impact on those at the event by providing valuable health and wellness information, we had fun while doing it,” said Dan.

Dan explained that Geisinger gives its employees a chance to make a difference since the organization partners with several nonprofits throughout the year.

“We’re fortunate to work for an organization that sees the value in partnering with the community and provides opportunities for its employees to give back as well,” added Dan. “When we work with nonprofits like the American Heart Association and show up to our local heart walk with 300 employees, we walk the walk — literally. We follow through on our promise to be there for our community.”

Dan gets inspiration from seeing others engaged in community work, and he encourages others who are interested in getting more involved to reach out to him for help getting started.

“There are so many organizations doing fantastic work across our regions,” said Dan. “Whether you’re passionate about improving health, literacy, education, recreation, the environment, economic development or helping those less fortunate in our society, there is truly something everyone can get involved with to help our neighbors.”
