The Family Medicine Residency Program at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, together with Geisinger Human Resources, invite students from northeastern and central Pennsylvania interested in healthcare careers to register for the virtual Health Professions Summer Immersion Program (HPSIP).

The free program, slated to begin June 27, encourages students to explore the rewards of working in healthcare, whether in direct patient care or business support areas. Students will learn about the roles of a range of professionals, from physicians and nurses to security and hospitality workers. They will also receive practical advice about career planning, kick-starting their next chapter and seeking a mentor.

“HPSIP is designed for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to get acquainted with our community's healthcare services and lifestyle,” said Stephanie M. Jones, C-TAGME, Geisinger Lewistown Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency program manager. “It equips them to become more competitive applicants to programs in medicine and other healthcare-related disciplines, including information technology and finance.”

Jones said the HPSIP program supports young people from all backgrounds to envision themselves in health science surroundings. “HPSIP mentors encourage students to establish educational and professional goals and make informed choices that foster an ongoing interest in healthcare-related careers. This academic enrichment program encourages students to pursue fulfilling professions locally,” she said.

The four-week program consists of virtual presentations held on Monday evenings at 6 p.m., with one Wednesday evening during week three. It runs from June 27 through Aug. 8.

The program is free, but registration is limited. Registration deadline is June 10. For more information, email Stephanie Jones at smjones8@geisinger.edu. To reserve your seat, visit https://forms.office.com/r/qJ61mHNJz6.
