“Scratch being an inpatient off my list,” jokes Dr. Mark Micciche, a podiatrist at Scranton’s GCMC. Mark grew up in a close-knit family where gathering around the dinner table is a Sunday tradition. “We’re Italian. We love food,” Mark admits. So when the self-proclaimed foodie doubled over in pain after one of his favorite meals, he knew he had to go to the emergency room. Without question, Mark went to the very hospital he’s practiced for 21 years. An abdominal scan and scope revealed a severe blockage and Dr. Ricky Clay removed Mark’s appendix. “This made me truly appreciate the patient experience. Now I feel great. I can eat without suffering.” #GeisingerStories
