Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

When Barbara McCutcheon a nurse of 35 years from Etters saw a change in her mammogram she knew right away it was breast cancer. “I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I had breast cancer and before you knew it, it was done,” she says. Barbara’s stage 1 breast cancer treatment included a lumpectomy and brachytherapy with a SAVI device - which delivers targeted radiation directly to the lumpectomy site and is an alternative to externally delivered radiation. “I knew the side effects of external radiation and there was none of that with my treatment. The people at Geisinger’s Breast Care Center did a very good job explaining everything to me. And everyone was so nice. I felt they truly cared and were concerned for me. Now I take oral chemo daily – a pill – and I will do that for five years as a preventive measure. But I have faith and I feel pretty good right now.” #GeisingerStories #BreastCancerAwareness #radiation #caring
