Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

“Bob’s left hand wasn’t working right,” says Joyce Braucht of Jersey Shore, Pa. She noticed her husband Bob struggling with his shirt. “I asked him some questions and I asked him to tie his shoe. It was difficult for him. That’s when I decided to take him to the emergency room.”

The couple headed down the street to Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital. “Within minutes, we pulled up to the ER and patient access rep Jackie Brungard met us immediately at the front door with a wheelchair. By time I swung my car around, parked and walked in, they were already examining Bob.”

Emergency physician Dr. Bradley Brocious ordered a CT scan, then arranged for Bob to be transferred by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Recently designated a Comprehensive Stroke Center, GMC has a team available to examine a patient suffering with a stroke within 15 minutes.

An evaluation and testing by neuro-hospitalist Dr. Anthony Noto and his team showed Bob suffered a right side ischemic stroke. “They ran multiple tests and the doctors and nurses took excellent care of me,” Bob says.

He was later transferred to Geisinger HealthSouth for physical therapy, and is doing very well now. “We are just so lucky,” says Joyce. “We are so pleased with how friendly, fast and efficient Geisinger was in caring for Bob.”
