Currently, patients who require anesthesia for an MRI transfer through multiple floors before and after their MRI. During transport-induction-recovery cycles, the MRI scanner and staff are idle, and separate vertical trips by anesthesia staff are necessary to re-prepare the equipment and pharmaceuticals for use with the next patient. Time lost to patient and staff transits further contributes to inefficiency by reducing the available time for anesthetic administration. This project is designed to outfit the three-bed bays in MRI, which is adjacent to the anesthesia induction room in the MRI suite, to implement an intervention where all MRI patients requiring anesthesia will report directly to the MRI suite. Relocating the preparation and initial recovery of patients to the bays immediately adjacent to the induction room would have substantial cost and time benefits. Eliminating transportation of sedated or post-anesthetic patients over substantial distances can improve patient safety and help cases run more smoothly. All patients would be in one place, which can potentially reduce length of stay and improve patient satisfaction.
