With more than 33 years of service, Life Flight is the leader in medical air transportation in central and northeast Pennsylvania. We are nationally recognized in safety with quality measures that exceed the National Transportation Safety Board requirements such as night vision equipment, single pilot instrument flight certification, and satellite tracking systems. Our program averages 2,500 flights per year with seven state-of-the-art helicopters that are equipped for adverse weather conditions and night vision to ensure a safe flight at any time.
We specialize in transporting:
- Critical patients from accident scenes
- Premature newborns
- Cardiac patients
- Critical care adult, pediatric and organ transplant patients
Life Flight® operates five of its seven helicopters per day from one 12-hour base in Danville and four 24-hour bases in Avoca, Williamsport, Minersville and State College. Our experienced in-air crew consists of a pilot, a flight registered nurse (RN), and a paramedic trained in the areas of neonatal, pediatric and adult critical care. Why Choose Geisinger?
Life Flight is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) - the gold standard for air medical transport - through 2017. To earn CAMTS accreditation, a service must demonstrate compliance to strict standards involving quality of medical care, equipment maintenance, communications, training and safety, along with passing a comprehensive, on-site inspection.
Only 168 medical transport services in the world have earned CAMTS accreditation. During Life Flight's site survey, the team was commended for leadership involvement, staff dedication, patient care, program standardization, scheduling safeguards of the maintenance team and maintaining equipment and supplies in perfect condition.
