OB/GYN sub-internship

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Geisinger Medical Center provides care for the complete range of obstetrical and gynecological conditions, including some of the region’s most complicated obstetrical and gynecological cases. As such, medical students like you have the opportunity to experience and participate in the care of patients with a variety of conditions, including normal and high-risk pregnancies, well-woman care, urinary and pelvic floor dysfunction, infertility, gynecologic preinvasive disease and cancer, benign gynecologic neoplasms, menopause and gynecologic bleeding abnormalities.

We provide family-centered obstetrics care throughout normal pregnancies and deliveries. A team of obstetricians, perinatologists and neonatologists provides high-risk obstetric care. Our commitment is to provide expert care for the short-stay mother and baby after a normal delivery, as well as the high-risk mother and critically ill baby.

For patients with gynecological cancer, evaluation and care is directed by our gynecologic oncologist in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. This includes initial evaluation, surgery, radiation oncology and chemotherapy.

The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility provides a full range of services and supports a fellowship. In-vitro fertilization and other assisted reproductive technologies are available.

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine provides inpatient and outpatient consultation and management for high-risk conditions of pregnancy. You’ll be exposed to techniques of antenatal diagnosis and comprehensive ultrasound and will participate in the evaluation of patients in the office and hospital.

Our Division of Urogynecology offers evaluation and treatment of female pelvic floor disorders, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence and many other conditions. You’ll be exposed to medical and surgical techniques for management of these problems.

Goals and objectives

Clerkships and rotations are clinically oriented. 

Fourth-year allopathic or osteopathic medical students can apply for electives in general OB/GYN, maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology and reproductive endocrinology. These can be two or four weeks in length.
