With an ambitious vision to build a hospital and make it the best, Abigail Geisinger opened the George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital more than 100 years ago with a single donation.
Much has changed since her transformational gift, but some things remain the same. Generous contributions from our employees and community keep Geisinger at the forefront of medicine and uphold Abigail Geisinger’s vision of providing quality healthcare for everyone.
How do donors, sponsors and funders help advance research?
Donors lay the groundwork by providing financial support for Geisinger’s research activities. Contributions can be general or targeted to a specific disease or topic of interest.
Undesignated gifts give Geisinger flexibility to use the funds to meet urgent needs or advance strategic priorities. However, you may designate your gift to a specific fund, hospital, initiative or project that’s particularly important to you.
The impact of your donation
When you choose to donate, you support nationally recognized research focused locally. The issues we study are relevant to people right here in northeastern and north-central Pennsylvania. Just a few recent examples of our research:
- Developing groundbreaking concepts in the treatment of developmental disorders in children
- Creating and testing a tool to predict which patients will benefit most from gastric bypass surgery
- Using the MyCode® biobank and genomics to search for genetic markers that predict the risk of an abdominal aortic aneurysm — a leading cause of death in the U.S.
Research like this is at the heart of Geisinger’s mission. And it’s critical to our goal of providing the best possible healthcare for patients.
