At Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC), we're dedicated to providing you and your family with high quality, specialty healthcare services close to home. Our commitment is to bring you the best in technology, clinical expertise and exceptional patient care.
As the leading provider of critical care services in Scranton and all of Lackawanna County, we offer critical, therapeutic, diagnostic, rehabilitative and educational services and programs.
Individualized patient care and advanced critical care are at the center of all we do. GCMC's services and programs include the acclaimed New Steps Joint Replacement Center, an accredited Primary Stroke Center, advanced surgical subspecialties including a team of neurosurgeons, and Lackawanna County's only inpatient behavioral health unit, electronic intensive care unit and Level II Trauma Center.
GCMC is also home to the award-winning Heart and Vascular Institute, the first and only hospital in Scranton to be certified as both a Heart Attack Receiving Center by the American Heart Association and an accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.
Community Medical Center merged with Geisinger Health System in February, 2012, and as part of Geisinger's $158.6 million commitment to northeast Pennsylvania, a $97.1 million campus expansion project at the hospital includes a new 14-room operating suite, a new check-in area, a beautiful new waiting room, new pedestrian sky bridge, new 19-bed intensive/critical care unit, and an expansive main lobby more than double the previous size. The project also includes a new Gastrointestinal (GI) Suite, with private pre- and post-operative areas for all patients that will be finalized the fall of 2016.
