Quality Measures

At Geisinger, we believe that informed patients make better choices about their healthcare providers and are better able to participate in their own care.

Quality indicators
Base your healthcare decisions upon doctors' qualifications and hospitals' record of success:

Quality in Pennsylvania
To see how Geisinger's three hospitals perform compared to state and national averages in heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and prevention of healthcare-associated infection, you'll find links below to the Pennsylvania Health Care Quality Alliance's new Web site. This site reflects data collected by The Pennsylvania Health Care Quality Alliance, a voluntary group of healthcare organizations, including Geisinger, that work together to improve the quality of health care for Pennsylvanians. Note: Most data is from 2006 and 2007.

Hospital-Acquired Infections
The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) has released its first hospital-specific report on hospital-acquired infections. The report - the first of its kind in the nation - identifies the actual numbers of infections reported by Pennsylvania's 168 hospitals, as well as other related quality of care measures.

Hospital Performance Report

The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) has released a report describing 30 conditions which specify the clinical reason(s) for a patient’s hospitalization. Of the 30 ICD9 code-based conditions, there are 19 diagnoses and 11 procedures.

Patient Safety
Geisinger is taking steps to improve our processes and decrease the potential for human error.
