Watch Oaklynn's inspiring journey from a life-threatening stroke to thriving toddler, and discover how Geisinger's quick response and expert pediatric care made all the difference.

How quick action and expert care gave Oaklynn a second chance

When 13-month-old Oaklynn woke up one day, something wasn't right. The normally happy baby was inconsolable, and as they started to go to urgent care in Pottsville, her symptoms grew worse. Her mom knew she needed help — fast.

They headed to the emergency room, where Geisinger doctors discovered Oaklynn had a blood clot in her brain. She was rushed to surgery for a mechanical thrombectomy to remove the clot.

Throughout her stay in intensive care, Oaklynn's mother was welcomed into medical rounds, given the chance to ask questions and supported by compassionate nurses who brought toys and activities to make the hospital feel more like home. In fact, Oaklynn’s care was so inspiring that her mother decided to pursue nursing herself.

Today, Oaklynn is a thriving, feisty 2-year-old who’s exceeded all expectations. After her remarkable recovery, she shows no signs of developmental delays or lasting effects from her brain injury — a true miracle her doctors attribute to the immediate, high-quality care she got close to home.
