Think you need a COVID-19 test? If you’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing, or you’ve been around someone suspected to have COVID-19 or who’s had a laboratory-confirmed positive test — you meet the CDC’s guidelines for testing.
Note: Unless you have severe symptoms and no other options for care, don’t go to the emergency room (ER) for COVID-19 testing. The ER is often a crowded place, so the risk of infection to you and others is higher there.
If you meet the guidelines for COVID-19 testing, you can do one of the following:
- Screen yourself for symptoms and, based on your self-screening results, schedule a COVID-19 test via our patient portal MyGeisinger (or the MyChart mobile app).
- Call your primary care doctor or pediatrician.
- Call our COVID-19 hotline at 570-284-3657.
How to screen yourself (and schedule a COVID test) in MyGeisinger:
- Log into MyGeisinger or MyChart mobile app.
- Click “appointments,” then “schedule an appointment.”
- Choose “schedule an appointment by selecting your reason for the visit.”
- Click “coronavirus (COVID-19) testing.”
- Answer the screening questions, then walk through the steps to schedule your COVID test

Where can I get a COVID-19 test for travel or other activities?
Anyone age 12 months and older can get a COVID-19 test at any of our ConvenientCare clinics. Tests are available by appointment only.
Note: COVID-19 testing for travel is not available at our ConvenientCare+ clinics. If your child is younger than 12 months, contact your pediatrician for advice on testing.
How do I make an appointment?
You can either screen yourself and schedule a COVID test in MyGeisinger (see instructions above) or call our COVID-19 hotline at 570-284-3657.
How much does a COVID-19 travel test cost?
Because tests for travel aren’t considered medically necessary, they’re not typically covered by health insurance. At Geisinger, the total out-of-pocket cost is $140.
We accept FSA and HSA cards in addition to major credit/debit cards.
What type of test is performed?
At Geisinger, we’re performing reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (or RT-PCR) tests.

Getting your COVID-19 test results
No matter your reason for getting tested, your COVID-19 test results should be available in MyGeisinger and the MyChart mobile-app within 24 to 48 hours.
