About Geisinger Life Flight
When every minute is critical, skill and speed can save lives. Geisinger Life Flight® has been the leader in medical air transportation in central and northeastern Pennsylvania for 45 years. Our comprehensive air and ground critical care transport program is designed to respond to 911 scene calls and carry out interhospital transports, so patients of all ages and clinical conditions can receive the highest level of care.
We specialize in transporting:
- Critically injured trauma patients from accident scenes and community hospitals
- Premature newborns
- Complex medical patients (all types and ages)
- Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) patients
- Blood products on every transport
Life Flight averages more than 4,400 transports per year from 7 strategically located base sites. Our fleet includes 9 helicopters equipped with the latest technology for adverse weather conditions and night flights.
Life Flight exceeds National Transportation Safety Board requirements with advanced safety measures, including:
- Night vision equipment: Guaranteeing safe, reliable flights even in low-light conditions
- Twin engine single pilot instrument flight certification: Enhancing safety and flight in instrument conditions
- Satellite tracking systems: Providing real-time monitoring and coordination
- Critical care technology: Aircraft and ground ambulances equipped to provide secure transport and treatment when medical care is needed most

Life Flight is more than a transport service. We’re a team of highly trained aviation and medical professionals dedicated to providing the best possible care. Our advanced technology and proven commitment to safety make us the trusted choice for critical care transportation.
- 2018 – Expanded service areas and partnerships: Life Flight expanded service to the Lehigh Valley through an air medical collaboration with St. Luke's University Health Network.
- 2019 – Added blood transport services to improve outcomes: Life Flight began carrying blood products on all transport assets. Through December 2024, more than 440 patients benefited from this clinical resource, improving outcomes and saving lives.
- 2021 – New transport assets expand our fleet: The 8th EC145 helicopter and a new critical care Life Flight ambulance were delivered.
- 2024 – Next-generation transports enhance the program: A new critical care Life Flight ambulance went into service and a new H135 next generation helicopter was added.
- Today – Nearly 100,000 patients served and counting: Since our inception in 1981, Life Flight has transported nearly 100,000 patients, a testament to our commitment to excellence and patient care.
