Why choose Geisinger for behavioral health outpatient care?

Mental health is a big part of your overall health. And asking for help to improve it is a sign of strength. Whatever you're working through — stress, family conflict, life changes — you deserve support in a welcoming space.

Our outpatient services include individual and group therapy, medication management and counseling, and we offer many of them in person and virtually. Here, you'll work with a team of mental health professionals to get through challenges and restore your well-being.

If you need more support than standard outpatient visits provide, but not a full hospital stay, our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a structured alternative. It's also a good fit as a step-down option after a hospitalization.

To get started, talk with your primary care provider or a specialist about a referral. We're here when you're ready.

FAQs

What are behavioral health outpatient services?

Behavioral health outpatient services offer mental health support, including therapy, counseling and medication management, without an overnight hospital stay. You can schedule in-person and virtual appointments, so you’ll get care that fits your life without having to miss work, school or caregiving responsibilities.

What is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

Geisinger’s behavioral health Intensive Outpatient Program is a structured level of care for people who need more support than traditional outpatient therapy but don't require inpatient hospitalization.

The IOP meets 3 half-days a week and includes group therapy, psycho-education and medication management overseen by a psychiatrist. It can be a good alternative to inpatient care or as a transitional step after hospitalization.
