About Geisinger's multidisciplinary pain management program

Chronic pain doesn’t follow a schedule. It’s invisible to everyone but you. And it rarely has a simple fix.

The right approach to managing pain that changes how you sleep, work and move often takes more than one kind of treatment.

Here in Danville, you’ll find a multidisciplinary pain management program designed for adults like you who have chronic pain. Over 8 sessions, you’ll work with a team of pain medicine specialists, behavioral health providers, physical therapists and nutritionists to learn skills you can use for life.

Together, you’ll explore practical tools — like behavioral pacing, mindfulness, helpful movement, nutrition and sleep — to help you manage pain, restore function and rely less on medication.

If your pain interferes with your everyday life, ask your primary care provider (PCP) for a referral.

FAQs

When should I get help for my pain?

It's worth talking to your PCP when:

  • Pain disrupts your sleep
  • Pain affects your work
  • Pain changes your mood or relationships
  • Medications aren't enough on their own
  • You’ve felt pain for 3 months or more
  • You want to explore options beyond medication

What are the goals of the multidisciplinary pain management program?

We built this program around 3 goals: helping you manage your chronic pain over the long term, building skills you can use to improve your quality of life and reducing reliance on opioid medication when possible.

Rather than focusing on a single treatment, the program takes a holistic approach and combines medical, behavioral and lifestyle tools to address pain from multiple angles.

Do I need a referral for the multidisciplinary pain management program?

Yes. To join the program, you’ll need a referral from your primary care provider or another specialist. If your pain makes your daily life more difficult, ask your PCP whether the multidisciplinary pain management program might be right for you.
