FAQs

What is outpatient addiction treatment, and how does it work?

Outpatient addiction treatment lets you get care while living at home. You meet regularly with addiction medicine specialists who help manage cravings, withdrawal symptoms and related health conditions. Depending on your needs, your plan may include medical care, counseling, group therapy, medication-assisted treatment and telehealth appointments.

How can I get help for addiction without quitting my job?

Outpatient addiction treatment is designed to fit into your daily life. Many people continue working, attending school and caring for family members while being treated.

How does outpatient addiction counseling help?

Outpatient addiction counseling helps you build coping skills and strategies that support long-term recovery. Counseling focuses on stress management, motivation, relationships, relapse prevention and emotional support. This includes individual therapy and group therapy.

How does medication-assisted treatment (MAT) work?

Medications for substance use disorder help reduce cravings, manage withdrawal symptoms and support long-term recovery. Your care team may recommend buprenorphine (Suboxone®), injectable buprenorphine (Brixadi® or Sublocade®) or naltrexone (Vivitrol®) depending on your needs.

What’s an intensive outpatient program (IOP)?

Intensive outpatient programming provides structured treatment for substance use disorder without an overnight stay. It's designed for people who don't need medical detox or 24-hour supervision, but need more support than standard outpatient care. An IOP can also serve as a step-down after inpatient or residential treatment.

IOPs focus on building coping strategies, preventing relapse and establishing support systems that help sustain recovery. Research shows this level of care produces outcomes comparable to inpatient treatment for many people with substance use disorder.

Do you offer addiction treatment evaluations for healthcare professionals and uniformed professionals?

Yes. We offer evaluations and treatment recommendations for licensed healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, dentists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses, as well as for uniformed professionals, such as police officers and first responders.

Are telehealth appointments available for outpatient substance use disorder therapy?

Yes. Phone and video appointments let you connect with your care team from home.
