Why choose Geisinger for your CT scan?

CT scans use X-ray beams to produce cross-section images of organs, bones, soft tissue and blood vessels. They're higher resolution than traditional X-rays, so they’re valuable for diagnosing many health conditions.

Our experienced radiologists use CT scanners with rapid scan times to produce high-quality 2D and 3D diagnostic images fast. We interpret results in house and coordinate them with your other care, so your whole care team has what they need.

In emergencies, a CT scan can quickly reveal internal injuries and bleeding. We can also produce 3D printed models from CT scan data to help your specialists plan treatment.

We're recognized as a Radiology Center of Excellence by Covera Health for meeting the highest standards in CT and MRI imaging, so you can feel confident in your care.

Once your doctor places an order, you can schedule in MyChart.

FAQs

What’s a CT scan?

A CT scan uses focused X-ray beams to produce detailed cross-section images of the inside of your body. It's fast, noninvasive and painless, and it gives your doctors a much clearer picture of what’s going on than a traditional X-ray can.

What can you diagnose with a CT scan?

CT scans help diagnose a range of conditions, including cancer, stroke, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders and internal injuries. Doctors can use CT images to locate tumors, measure their size and assess their impact on surrounding tissue.

What should I know before a CT scan?

CT scans are fast and require no special preparation in most cases. If your scan includes oral contrast, don’t eat or drink for 4 hours before your appointment. You’ll also need to arrive early, as it can take up to 90 minutes to drink the contrast before your scan. Your care team will let you know if there’s anything specific you need to do before your exam.

What do you use 3D CT images for?

CT scan data can produce 3D virtual images and 3D printed models. We often use them to help surgeons plan procedures and assist interpreting physicians with diagnosing vascular diseases.
