Couple discussing healthcare with a doctor in a medical clinic

Why choose Geisinger for urgent care?

Need care today? With 20 ConvenientCare locations and 4 ConvenientCare+ clinics across central and northeastern Pennsylvania, same-day treatment is always close by — with no appointment needed. Walk in when you can, or book your spot online. Can’t see us in-person? Virtual urgent care lets you get same-day care from home.

Advanced practitioners are ready to treat most of your minor ailments and injuries at a ConvenientCare clinic. But when you need advanced care for non-life-threatening emergencies, our ConvenientCare+ locations have emergency medicine doctors equipped to handle more acute conditions.

ConvenientCare is great when you need care sooner than your primary care doctor can see you — but it doesn’t replace having a doctor. Not sure where to go? Call your doctor's office and a nurse can help you decide.

If you have a life-threatening illness or injury, go to the nearest ER or call 911

FAQs

What ages do you treat, and do you have an urgent care for kids?

At our ConvenientCare walk-in clinics, we treat patients of all ages, from 12 months old to older adults. And at our pediatric urgent care clinic at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, we treat children of all ages, from infancy to age 18.

If you or your child has a life-threatening illness or injury, call 911.

What is ConvenientCare+?

ConvenientCare+ provides all the services of a traditional ConvenientCare — plus advanced care for non-life-threatening emergencies like:

  • Nebulizer therapy for management of breathing issues
  • IV fluids for dehydration
  • IV diuresis for urinary conditions
  • IV or oral steroids for inflammatory conditions
  • IV antibiotics for infections
  • Treatments for high or low blood sugar
  • Medication for high blood pressure
  • Heart rate control for atrial fibrillation (AFib)

What conditions don’t you treat?

Our ConvenientCare clinics do not provide:

  • Treatment for work-related injuries or illnesses
  • Treatment for motor vehicle accidents
  • Intensive care or emergency care
  • Narcotic prescriptions
  • Help with FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993) paperwork

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Either is fine. While walk-in appointments are always welcome, you can also check our wait times and save your spot online.

Can an urgent care provider prescribe medications?

Yes! Providers at our walk-in care clinics can prescribe a variety of common medications, from antibiotics to pain medications. And many of our ConvenientCare clinics are in the same location as our pharmacies, so you can fill your prescription before you leave the building.

What should I bring with me?

If you have time before heading in, these items can help speed up your visit:

  • A list of your current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements and other substances you use
  • Personal identification, like a driver's license, green card or passport
  • A list of medication allergies
  • Any test results related to your condition
  • Your health insurance cards and copay
  • Your primary care doctor’s contact information

When you arrive, tell us your symptoms as best as you can, and be honest when answering questions. It helps us better diagnose and treat you.

Do you accept my health insurance?

When you’re hurt or not feeling well, money should be your last concern. Our ConvenientCare centers accept most insurance plans and have reasonable copays.

ConvenientCare is a VA-authorized urgent care provider. If you’re enrolled in the VA (Veterans Affairs) healthcare system and have received medical care from a VA provider or an approved community provider within the last 2 years, you can visit Geisinger for urgent care. Just let us know you’re using your VA urgent care benefits.

VA healthcare enrollees don’t need a referral or prior authorization and can get care from any VA-authorized urgent care provider. Some restrictions may apply, so contact your insurance provider for details about your specific plan. For more information about the MISSION Act, visit the VA's website.

Do I need to be present for my child’s video visit?

If your child is under age 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present during their virtual appointment.

However, your child can consent to medical treatment, except abortion, if they have:

  1. Graduated from high school
  2. Been married or pregnant

Note: An emancipated minor may consent to all health services with no exception.
