FAQs

What’s an X-ray?

An X-ray is a type of imaging test that uses a small amount of radiation to create images of structures inside the body. X-rays are commonly used to evaluate bones, joints, organs and other tissues.

Can I walk in to get an X-ray?

Our orthopedic urgent care locations offer walk-in visits, and your provider will determine if an X-ray is appropriate. However, most patients need an order from a provider before scheduling an X-ray. Ask your primary care physician for a referral.

How long does an X-ray take?

Most X-ray exams take only a few minutes to complete. The exact amount of time depends on the type of imaging.

Will I need any special preparation for my X-ray?

Most X-rays require no preparation. However, some types of X-ray exams use a contrast material to make certain structures inside the body easier to see. Your care team will let you know if you need to do anything to prepare for your appointment.

What can an X-ray diagnose?

X-rays can help providers diagnose many conditions, including fractures, dislocations, arthritis, pneumonia, scoliosis and kidney stones.
