FAQs

What’s the difference between orthopedics and sports medicine?

Orthopedics is the broad medical specialty dedicated to your entire musculoskeletal system: your bones, joints, ligaments and tendons.

Sports medicine is a specialized branch of orthopedics focused on physical fitness and the treatment of injuries related to exercise and movement.

Should I see an orthopedic surgeon or a sports medicine provider?

For most patients, treatment starts with sports medicine. A sports medicine provider will assess and treat your condition, often through non-surgical options like physical therapy, injections or other minimally invasive treatments.

If those approaches are no longer providing you with relief, your care team may recommend a surgical consultation. Our sports medicine experts perform multiple minimally invasive surgical procedures such as tendon and ligament repairs.

Need a joint replacement or spine surgery? That’s when an orthopedic surgeon steps in to discuss options. Because your entire care team works together, that transition is seamless and you won’t have to start over.
