As of Sunday, July 6, Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) Family will implement changes to vision benefits for members age 21 and older, including those diagnosed with aphakia.

Key updates:

  • For members age 21 and older without aphakia:
Coverage will include up to 2 routine vision exams per calendar year at no cost to the member. No prior authorization is required.
  • For members age 21 and older with a diagnosis of aphakia:
    Coverage will include:
    • 2 routine vision exams per calendar year
    • 4 standard eyeglass lenses per calendar year
    • 2 standard eyeglass frames per calendar year (excludes deluxe frames)
    • 4 standard contact lenses per calendar year

All services are covered at no cost to the member and do not require prior authorization.

Provider guidance:

  • Members may see any in-network eye care provider; they are not required to select a single provider.
  • Routine vision care appointments can be scheduled directly with participating providers.
  • For specialty eye care (e.g., treatment for eye injuries or diseases), members should first talk to their primary care provider before connecting with a specialist.
