Change in laboratory network participation
Action required by Oct. 28
Laboratory services for Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) members are changing.
Effective Tuesday, Oct. 28, Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) will no longer be a participating laboratory provider in the GHP network. This change applies to all LabCorp locations and affiliated laboratories for all GHP plans*.
What to know
If you send patient specimens (e.g., bloodwork, pathology, other diagnostic tests) to LabCorp, be advised that GHP will no longer cover services rendered by LabCorp on or after Oct. 28 unless you obtain prior authorization. Claims submitted for services performed by LabCorp after this date may be denied, and patients could be held financially responsible.
What to do
To ensure continuity of care and avoid unexpected costs for your GHP patients:
- Redirect all laboratory orders to an in-network laboratory beginning Oct. 28.
- Review your lab ordering workflows to be sure LabCorp is removed as a default or preferred provider.
- Inform your clinical and administrative staff of this change to prevent inadvertent use of LabCorp services.
