Special Enrollment Period for Geisinger Gold and Medicare Advantage patients
As the year ends, some of your patients face disruption to their Medicare Advantage coverage due to a plan exit, non-renewal, or service area reduction. Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) will discontinue one Medicare Advantage plan and reduce the service area for another plan.
- Preferred Enhanced Rx (PPO) - discontinued throughout the state
- Classic 360 Rx (HMO) - no longer available in 11 counties; see list of counties below.
This change impacts a substantial number of Geisinger Gold members.
What this means for your patients
- Members enrolled in these plans must select a new Medicare Advantage plan by December 31, 2025 to avoid a lapse in coverage.
- If they do not enroll in a new plan, their coverage will automatically revert to Original Medicare on January 1, 2026.
- If they do not enroll in a new plan, they will lose prescription drug coverage and other Medicare Advantage benefits at that time.
Special Enrollment Period
Affected members are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to choose a new Medicare Advantage plan. The SEP runs through February 28. Your patients should be aware of their options. Prompt enrollment in a Medicare Advantage plan will help them maintain comprehensive coverage.
For questions or assistance, direct impacted patients to Medicare.gov or call Geisinger Gold Customer Service at 800-498-9731.
