The Mako difference
All joints are not created equal. Using Mako’s advanced technology, we can plan for better outcomes compared to manual joint replacement surgery. A minimally invasive approach using smaller incisions means:
- Less pain
- Quicker recovery time
- Shorter hospital stay
- Longer-lasting joints, custom-built for your unique body
- More healthy tissue, bone and ligaments preserved
Embrace life without limits — don't let persistent joint discomfort determine how you enjoy your time with those you love.
How Mako works
Superior precision, right from the beginning. A Geisinger orthopaedic surgeon will perform your surgery using Mako’s SmartRobotics™ System. Here’s how it works:
- Scan. It all starts with a CT scan so your surgeon can learn your specific anatomy. We’ll evaluate your bone structure, disease severity, joint alignment and even the surrounding bone and tissue.
- Plan. The CT scan is used to create a 3D virtual model of your joint. Your surgeon makes a personalized surgical plan based on your unique anatomy.
- Mako can. During surgery, your surgeon guides Mako's robotic arm, which uses AccuStop™ haptic technology, so they can cut less and protect your healthy bone tissue.
