Sleep-wake cycle disorder

Sleep-wake cycle disorder, also known as circadian rhythm disorder, is when the internal body clock is out of sync with natural light and dark cycles. People with this disorder may be sleepy during the day and unable to sleep at night.

If you suffer from this disorder, our sleep specialists can work with you to reset your circadian rhythm and help you get a good night's sleep.

What you should know about sleep-wake cycle disorder

  • Sleep-wake cycle disorder is common in blind people with no light perception, though sighted people often suffer from out-of-sync internal clocks as well.
  • Keeping a daily sleep log of when you go to sleep and when you wake up is helpful for gathering the information needed for a diagnosis. It can also contain information about disruptions to your sleep and your level of sleepiness during the day.
