Retina care

From watching your favorite band live to enjoying a Pennsylvania sunrise, our ophthalmologists are here to help you see life’s greatest moments and preserve your eye health.

What is a retina specialist?

Your retina is the light-sensitive tissue that lines the back of your eye. It’s what makes you see. There are several eye conditions that affect the retina. However, many of these vision issues can be treated when caught in their early stages.

A retina specialist is an ophthalmologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating eye disorders, including retina issues. They can perform surgery as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct your vision.

What conditions does a retina specialist treat?

As the area’s leading retina specialists, our ophthalmologists treat both complex and common retinal diseases and conditions including:

  • Blurry vision
  • Detached retina
  • Diabetic retinopathy (complications from diabetes)
  • Eye flashes
  • Uveitis, or eye inflammation
  • Floaters in the eye
  • Macular degeneration
  • Retina degeneration
  • Retinal holes
  • Retinal tear
  • Retinitis pigmentosa
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Vision distortion
  • Vision loss

What should I see a retina specialist?

Our highly trained ophthalmologists can make an early diagnosis to best treat your eye condition and prevent long-term eye damage. You may have an issue with your retina and need to see a retina specialist if you suddenly experience changes in your vision, such as:

  • Blind spots
  • Blurry vision
  • Eye flashes
  • Eye shadows
  • Floaters in the eye
  • Vision loss

Our eye specialists will work with you to determine the best treatment, which may include:

  • Vision aids – Assistive vision aids can provide an extra “boost” to help those with eye disease, such as macular degeneration, see better. In some instances, devices such as magnifiers, telescopes, video technology and other visual aids can improve your vision and help you function better in everyday life.
