What is the Geisinger lifetime hip and knee guarantee?
In 2018, Geisinger made medical history by becoming the first health system to offer a lifetime guarantee for total hip replacements, in partnership with Medacta. After the success of launching the lifetime hip guarantee, we’re thrilled to extend the same service to our lifetime knee guarantee.
A global leader in orthopaedic medical devices, Medacta trains surgeons–including those at Geisinger–in surgery techniques and the use of their specially-designed hip and knee implants for minimally-invasive surgeries.
When you receive a hip or knee replacement at Geisinger, we’ll stand behind your surgery for a lifetime. This means that if you need any follow-up care related to your surgery, Geisinger and Medacta International will stand behind the full cost of care, as long as you remain in the care of a Geisinger provider and are a Geisinger Health Plan member.
Geisinger offers three procedures using this method of joint pain treatment:
- ProvenCare® lifetime total hip surgery uses a Medacta hip joint to replace your hip and our ProvenCare, minimally-invasive surgery method to reduce your recovery time and need for pain medications.
- ProvenCare lifetime knee surgery uses a Medacta knee joint to replace your knee(s) and our ProvenCare, minimally-invasive surgery method to reduce your recovery time and need for pain medications.
- ProvenCare lifetime revision knee surgery uses a Medacta knee joint to replace your knee(s) and our ProvenCare, minimally-invasive surgery method to reduce your recovery time and need for pain medications. Geisinger will perform a revision surgery if you’ve had a previous knee replacement surgery that has failed, even if it was performed elsewhere or with joints from other manufacturers.
The joint replacements we use in both procedures are specifically designed for minimally-invasive surgery—which means faster recovery, less pain and better healing.
