Pain medicine
Geisinger helps patients relieve, manage and prevent chronic pain from conditions and injuries. Pain affects all aspect of a person’s life. We aim to treat you comprehensively and get you back on track in all aspects of your life.
Our pain management team uses different procedures and treatments to help people manage pain. We have a dedicated pain management clinic, as well as a comprehensive program that lets people lessen their dependence on opioids (narcotics). We focus on the whole person and provide personalized education and coaching to get you back to the things you love. Geisinger patients can visit pain clinics at our five different locations: Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, Geisinger South Wilkes Barre, Gray's Woods (State College) and Geisinger Woodbine Lane (Danville).
Why choose Geisinger for pain medicine?
- Highly skilled providers: Geisinger’s fellowship-trained pain medicine doctors have extra, specialized training beyond what is required. Our interventional pain providers utilize a comprehensive care approach that sets us apart from other pain clinics. We make a noticeable difference for our patients living with pain, even if we cannot eliminate it completely.
- Committed to reducing the use of opioids: Programs like the Multidisciplinary Pain Program spend more time identifying alternative treatments for relieving and managing pain. This includes a more active approach, and not relying solely on medications. System wide, Geisinger has been able to reduce opioid usage for patients by about 20 percent. Geisinger has a team of clinical pharmacists trained in managing narcotic medications, and by working with them, pain medicine doctors can spend more time identifying alternative approaches for relieving and managing pain.
- Innovation and research: We use a scientist/clinician multidisciplinary partnership that facilitates research in discovering new and innovative technologies and treatments. These improve outcomes for the patients living with pain. Our research focuses on projects that will have a direct impact on patient care when paired with genetic research and clinical innovations.
