Planning for recovery

Treatment can take its toll on your body. Whether you’re ready to leave the hospital’s care or not quite ready to go home yet, we’ll help guide you toward services and locations that can help you continue to heal.

Some options for continued recovery may include:

Hospice - Hospice care can help you or your family member to live comfortably while continuing cancer treatment, or when treatment is no longer the best option for care. People turn to hospice care throughout their cancer treatment, providing ready access to nurses, social workers, physical therapy, nutritionists and more. Learn more about hospice care at Geisinger.

Palliative care - Palliative care approaches the person as a whole, rather than targeting just their cancer with treatment. Here, your care team will help you to treat not only your cancer, but any side effects, including any psychological or spiritual problems you may be facing. Palliative care can begin at any stage of treatment for people of any age. Learn more about palliative care at Geisinger.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation - Physical medicine and rehabilitation can be a critical part of your recovery treatment. Whether you need physical therapy, speech therapy or physiatry, our team of medical professionals are trained in numerous disciplines to give you the care you need. Learn more about physical medicine and rehabilitation and physical therapy at Geisinger.

Home health - Wherever you are in your recovery, our team of home health service providers can help you right in the comfort of your own home. Through this program, you’ll have access to skilled nurses, therapists and staff members who will work directly with you and your doctors throughout your care. Learn more about Geisinger at Home.

Behavioral health - Treatment can take its toll not only physically, but mentally as well. Talking to someone throughout your care can greatly impact your overall health. Our highly skilled team of psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and clinical social workers can help create the right treatment plan for you. Learn more about behavioral health care at Geisinger.

Pain management - As a side effect of your treatment, you may experience some pain. Whether you’re suffering from nerve or muscle pain, our pain management team can help with treatments, including nerve blockers and meditation. Learn more about pain management with Geisinger.
