Youth volunteer programs

Looking for an excellent learning and social experience? Those between age 14 and 17 can broaden their outlook, interests and sense of responsibility through our junior volunteer program. Mature teens will have the satisfaction of helping others in a working healthcare environment while gaining skills and knowledge they’ll need in the future.

Teens thinking about a healthcare-related career can get an up-close look through our Aspirations in Medicine and Healthcare Initiatives (AiM HI) program.

Want to learn more about Geisinger’s junior volunteer or AiM HI program? Fill out the form on this page or call 570-271-6030.

Summer junior volunteer program

When school is out, summertime offers teens between 15 and 18 the chance to participate in an 8-week structured service program. They’ll have an exceptional experience through diverse service opportunities and planned educational days. Those interested must submit an application and references, as well as commit to serve at least 24 hours (3 hours weekly) and participate in six educational workshops during the 8-week session.

The admission process is competitive and space in the program is limited, so applicants to the summer program need to complete the following steps:

  • Submit your application between Feb. 1 - 28.
  • Arrange to have two references submitted on your behalf.
  • Attend an interest interview.
  • Successfully complete a health screening, including testing for drugs and nicotine.
  • Attend an orientation session.
  • Complete all clearances after turning 18.
  • Complete any additional training needed before starting service.

Some school-year youth volunteer opportunities may be available at certain locations. Call 570-271-6030 to learn more.

Aspirations in Medicine and Healthcare Initiatives (AiM HI)

Local 10th- and 11th-grade students can attend this one-day, interactive, hands-on career exploration experience to learn about healthcare-related careers, including clinical and non-clinical focus areas.

Spend a day with Geisinger professionals learning about specific professions: the education or experience needed to fulfill a role, what to expect when working in a role and the variety of roles available in the healthcare field.

Students can participate and register for this program through their local public school. School representatives should call 570-271-6030 or email

This program will be offered at a Geisinger campus in each region annually:

  • Northeast: Scranton and Wilkes-Barre
  • Central: Danville, Bloomsburg, Shamokin and Jersey Shore
  • Southwest: Lewistown
