Meeting community needs by asking the right questions
Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital (GBH) is part of central Pennsylvania's most complete community health system. At GBH, we offer a wide variety of care and are committed to continually expanding and upgrading our services. We know that understanding the challenges faced by the communities we serve is vital to closing healthcare gaps for its residents. That’s why we worked with community partners throughout the process of compiling the most recent community health needs assessment (CHNA) report.
The 2018 CHNA identified the following priorities across all Geisinger’s service areas: Access to care; behavioral health (including substance abuse and mental health strategies); and chronic disease prevention and management (with a focus on increasing healthy habits).
Major changes have been made at GBH, including physical renovations, new equipment installations and program expansions. A women’s health midwifery program and an urgent care for the elderly program provide much-needed services to some of the area’s most vulnerable patients. A Careworks urgent care clinic, a medication-assisted treatment clinic and a medication takeback program also address critical needs in the region. Significant upgrades to the emergency and radiology departments have improved patient flow, leading to more efficient care. In these, and many other ways, Geisinger Bloomsburg continues to respond to - and anticipate - the needs of the communities we serve.
More detail about GBH programs, as well as a comprehensive list of many action items that resulted from what we learned in the most recent CHNA report, are contained in the reports below:
