Delivering expanded services, more convenience to Mifflin & Juniata Counties
Understanding the challenges faced by the communities we serve is vital to closing healthcare gaps for their residents. That’s the goal of the community health needs assessment reports (CHNA).

Geisinger Lewistown Hospital (GLH) is Mifflin County’s most complete community health system, offering many services that are not available anywhere in the area. Since the last CHNA study was completed, renovation and expansion projects have begun or been completed at GLH as well as at facilities in State College. Across our service area, upgrades to equipment, facilities and processes are making it easier for patients to get the high quality healthcare services they need, in specialties that include orthopaedics, women’s health, cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, emergency medicine and radiology.

The 2018 CHNA identified the following priorities across all Geisinger’s service areas: Access to care; behavioral health (including substance abuse and mental health strategies); and chronic disease prevention and management (with a focus on increasing healthy habits).

One new program, Geisinger At Home, brings a team of experienced healthcare professionals, offering a wide range of services directly to qualified patients, in their own homes. Geisinger nurses, doctors, advanced practitioners, case managers, pharmacists and others work with patients and their primary care provider to help manage not only their medical conditions, but also social service needs and much more. Under the program, patients receive excellent care and frequent monitoring, with fewer trips to a doctor’s office or the hospital. Checkups, routine testing, wound care, respiratory therapy, nutritional needs and many other non-emergency medical situations are handled where the patient lives, making access to Geisinger healthcare more convenient than ever.

More detail about GLH programs, as well as a comprehensive list of many action items that resulted from what we learned in the most recent CHNA are contained in the reports below:
