ThinkBIG committee raises $37,500 for families of children battling cancer at Janet Weis Children's Hospital.

Cassandra Niglio, second from right, had her world come crashing in at the tender age of 12. “My mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. My entire life completely changed in that very moment,” explains the Mount Carmel native. “She fought her disease for a year-and-a-half and while it wasn’t pretty, she showed me how to be a fighter. I wanted to help as many families as I could to deal with the struggles of going through cancer. I gathered a committee and created Mount Carmel Area’s first 12-hour dance marathon, which raised over $12,000. It was a success that none of us saw coming. For the second year, we decided to donate to the ThinkBIG pediatric cancer fund.” ThinkBIG delivers financial support to families of children battling cancer at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. “We realized that helping kids in our own backyard was our mission and we are thrilled with how much it’s grown. Last year our event raised $37,500. I can only hope that one day there is a cure for this deadly disease. Until then we will do all we can to help those in need.
