Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

Angie Price was always a runner. When she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 31, her love of running became overshadowed by fear.
“I always wanted to run a half-marathon, but I was afraid to do it - didn’t think I COULD do it,” she said, explaining she worried her blood sugar would drop to dangerous levels before she could do anything about it.  That is until she visited Geisinger’s diabetes clinic in Lewistown and worked with a pharmacist who put her on a continuous glucose monitor that reads blood sugar levels every five minutes. The monitor also notifies the wearer of drops in the levels so precautions can be taken if necessary.  “The monitor gave me confidence to feel like I could do it, because I wasn’t constantly afraid of things getting out of control.”
Angie ran her first half-marathon in March, placing 68th of 711 in her age group and finishing within her two-hour goal. When she runs her next half marathon in October, she’ll gear up with her three most important pieces of equipment - her running shoes, her monitor and peace of mind. #GeisingerStories
