December often means planning holiday celebrations, visiting friends and family or simply hunkering down for the colder weather. This year, social distancing standards may require some adjustments to the ways we celebrate. Here are some creative ways to ensure a joyous and fulfilling season.

Visit a tree farm.
Even if you’re not into putting up a tree, local nurseries and tree farms often have loose branches for wreath making, evergreen garlands and picturesque photo ops, not to mention other holiday decor and activities.

Deliver surprises
Whether it’s a wrapped gift or a stocking of goodies, delivering small gifts to friends, family or coworkers can fill your days with joy and leave your recipients guessing who their Secret Santa is.

Get out and about.
Visit a nearby town and check out the holiday decorations. Take a family walk around the neighborhood or through a local park to see the lights. Attend drive-through light displays in your area.

Get into the spirit.
Check out TV listings of seasonally themed shows and movies like Hallmark and classic movie channels. Play holiday tunes when you’re cooking a weeknight meal. Write out holiday cards (bonus points for making the
cards). Have a gift-wrapping night, where everyone gets their own paper roll and tape.

Stay connected while keeping apart.
Have a remote cookie exchange and drop off a box of your home baked goods. When shopping online for gifts, you can request gift wrap and personalized messages to your recipient. Schedule a Zoom call to talk about your holiday plans with friends and family.

Make your home even more inviting.
Make pomanders with oranges and cloves to get your house smelling like the holidays. A fresh evergreen wreath evokes nostalgia. Flickering candles help us to reflect on the blessings of this year.
