Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time dedicated to honoring the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans, whose roots stem from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.

Hispanic Americans are one of the largest ethnic groups in the United States today, and we recognize their important presence in our local communities. The Hispanic and Latino population is one of the fastest growing demographic groups in the communities Geisinger serves, and it’s important that we recognize the rich history, customs and traditions of this diverse group.

During National Hispanic Heritage Month, we all have an opportunity to celebrate, listen and learn about the accomplishments of generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our society.

Manuel Arreguin, MD, director of Women's Health for Geisinger Northeast, talks about what National Hispanic Heritage Month means to him, and how his heritage has helped influence his work at Geisinger.

Ida Castro, chief diversity officer, associate dean for Equity and Inclusion at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, talks about what National Hispanic Heritage Month means to her, and how her heritage has influenced her entire career.
