Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SCRANTON, PA
-- The new, $1.7 million gastrointestinal (GI) suite at Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) opened today, officially completing the last phase of the hospital’s $97.1 million renovation project.

The 12,000 square-foot suite – more than eight times the previous size - includes six preoperative bays, two private observation bays and 12 recovery units. Located on the hospital’s second floor, the new suite features state-of-the art gastrointestinal facilities, scopes that display high definition imagery on large screens for diagnosis, high-tech patient monitoring systems, electrosurgical capabilities and an upgraded information technology system to view, capture and store patient images and share reports with other clinicians.

The suite employs 10 gastroenterologists, seven registered nurses and three specialty-trained technologists.  Procedures offered include endoscopies, colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies and endoscopic ultrasounds in the diagnosis of digestive disorders and conditions.

“The new technology and attention to patient care is amazing,” said Charles Grad, M.D., director of gastroenterology at GCMC. “Through every step of the patient experience, we offer excellent care, technology and recovery. The new area offers a comprehensive, single-site approach to admission, procedure, diagnosis, treatment and recovery, making it convenient and comfortable for each patient.”
