Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DANVILLE, PA -- Mothers who prefer a more private space when breastfeeding can now find one in Geisinger Medical Center’s (GMC) Women’s Pavilion. The free-standing Mamava lactation station/pod offers nursing mothers a safe, clean and functional private suite.

While the GMC Women’s Pavilion is a breastfeeding advocate and mothers can continue to breastfeed anywhere, the new 32-square-foot suite provides a more private option. It has adequate space for breastfeeding and/or pumping and is roomy enough to accommodate additional children. Features include:

  • A fold down table to comfortably situate a breast pump
  • A power outlet for breast pump
  • Space for luggage and/or a stroller
  • Food-safe, easily cleaned materials
  • Soft lighting and mirror
  • Fixture with mirror and clean-up supplies
  • Occupied lock, with custom lock options

“Geisinger Women’s Health is a strong advocate of breastfeeding anywhere and anytime, but there was a definite need for this dedicated space for those who prefer privacy,” said Kerri Michalik, vice president of the women’s health service line, Geisinger Health System. “Prior to this unit, women used empty exam rooms, bathrooms and public waiting rooms – anywhere they could find space. Now, there’s a private suite specifically designed to meet their needs.”

There are Mamava Lactation Suites all across the country in airports, colleges, private businesses and sports arenas. More information about Mamava is available at http://mamava.com/.
