Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

Seven fellows graduated from Geisinger residency programs

On Dec. 4, the Medical Specialties Matching Program (MSMP) announced the 2019 fellowship matches. Of the fellows matching into a sub-specialty at Geisinger, seven are physicians who completed their initial residency training at Geisinger.

“It is fantastic that so many of our incoming fellows are Geisinger-trained residents who decided to remain in training with us.” said Michelle Thompson, MD, associate dean for graduate medical education and designated institutional officer, Geisinger.

The Medical Specialties Matching Program is conducted by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), which also conducts the main residency match, whose “Match Day” is held annually in March. A fellowship is a period of medical training in the United States during which a physician who has completed an initial residency pursues additional training in a subspecialty. Fellows act as an attending physician or a consultant physician in the generalist field in which they were trained. After completing a fellowship in the relevant sub-specialty, the fellow may then practice without direct supervision by other physicians in that sub-specialty.

The fellows are:
  • Saif Ahmed, MD, who completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Geisinger and has matched into Geisinger’s fellowship program in interventional radiology.
  • Yvonne Dansoa, DO, who completed an internal medicine residency at Geisinger and has matched into Geisinger’s fellowship program in hematology and medical oncology.
  • Amir Eslami, DO, who completed an internal medicine residency at Geisinger and has matched into Geisinger’s fellowship program in cardiology.
  • Leah Herbst, DO, who completed an internal medicine residency at Geisinger and has matched into Geisinger’s fellowship program in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Daniel Lepone, MD, who completed an internal medicine residency at Geisinger and has matched into Geisinger’s fellowship program in critical care medicine.
  • Raghuveer Puttagunta, MD, who completed a medicine-pediatrics residency at Geisinger and has matched into Geisinger’s fellowship program in clinical informatics.
  • Ruchit Shah, DO, who completed an internal medicine residency at Geisinger and has matched into Geisinger’s fellowship program in gastroenterology.
