Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

MUNCY, Pa. – Geisinger Medical Center Muncy will be offering free hernia screenings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. Matthew Souder, MD, will be conducting the screenings.

Hernias develop when an organ or fatty tissue pushes through a weak spot in the wall of the surrounding tissue, typically in the abdomen, and are often caused by muscle weakness and strains and progression depends on the injury. They can also appear during pregnancy, weightlifting, straining too much from physical activities, or through persistent coughs and sneezing.

Symptoms include bulges or lumps in the affected area and can be treated through open surgery, Laparoscopic repair, or robotic surgery. Once diagnosed, a doctor will determine treatment.

Geisinger Medical Center Muncy is located at 255 Route 220 Highway in Muncy.
