Heather M. Acker

Chair

Heather M. Acker was appointed to the Geisinger Health Board of Directors in December 2013 and became chair of the board in January 2024. Ms. Acker also serves as chair of the Emergency Action Committee.  She serves as a member on the Geisinger Family, Audit and Compliance, Finance, Governance and Quality committees of the board. Ms. Acker has been a member of the Geisinger Health Plan, Geisinger Quality Options Inc., and Geisinger Indemnity Insurance Company Board of Directors since June 2013.

Beyond her Geisinger role, Ms. Acker retired at the end of 2021 as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Gentex Corporation in Carbondale, Pa. She had held the position of chief financial officer for 20 years and has been executive vice president since 2010. Gentex Corporation designs and manufactures integrated life support systems for human protection in military, homeland defense and commercial markets. Ms. Acker was responsible for all financial and administrative activities, and was involved in business strategy and execution. Customers range from the Department of Defense to safety equipment manufacturers, and products from advanced aircrew helmets to aluminized fabric.

Ms. Acker earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics from Bucknell University and received her MBA, with distinction, from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration in finance. Her education in math and finance and her experience as a chief financial officer are significant elements of the board's competency in the areas of finance and accounting and of her effectiveness as a financial expert of the Geisinger Audit and Compliance Committee and member of the Geisinger Finance Committee.

Ms. Acker co-chaired the Go Red for Women Campaign in 2022 and with her husband Warren, chaired the 2023-2024 Campaign for the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike Counties in Pennsylvania.

Ms. Acker also serves on the Kania School of Management Advisory Board Council and The Institute Board. Former board memberships included Penn Millers Board of Directors, chair of the Compensation Committee and on the Special Committee to the Board during its sale, Community Medical Center Board of Directors, past chairman, treasurer of the Boys and Girls Club of Scranton for 13 years, Scranton Chamber of Commerce, PNC Regional Advisory Board and the Waverly Community House.

Ms. Acker resides in Waverly, Pa., with her husband, Warren. They have three children and three grandchildren.
