Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

DANVILLE, Pa. – The Environmental Services team has an important role keeping Geisinger campuses safe for patients and visitors. At Geisinger Medical Center in Danville the team is responsible for 2,966,239 square feet, including more than 500 beds. With redeployed staff, that work is currently divvied up between 320 employees.

Recognizing their vital role, Scott Mertz, broker and owner of Century 21 Mertz & Associates, Inc., provided 350 Subway sandwiches for all three shifts of EVS workers on May 7.

“The technicians in the EVS department are truly essential to keep the campus running smoothly and may be the least recognized,” Mertz said. “This is our way to say thank you and let them know how much they are appreciated for the frontline work that they do on a daily basis.”

The EVS team is responsible for cleaning the emergency departments and the screening tent areas at each campus as well, according to Eric Nowak, senior director of EVS. The recognition helps show the team how valuable they are, he said.

“We are humbled not only by the recognition of our Environmental Services staff by our clinical providers within the organization, but also the community businesses and members that have recognized the critical role Environmental Services provides to achieve quality patient care,” Nowak said.  “Every day is a new challenge, and at the end of it, we come out on top, together as one.”
