Final event set to raise money for Danville's Ronald McDonald Family Room

DANVILLE, PA – The Ronald McDonald House will host the final event in a year-long journey for a small committee of Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) employees who made a personal goal to raise and donate $100,000 toward the construction of a Ronald McDonald House family room in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital at Geisinger Medical Center.

The event, Friday, June 2, from 6 – 9 p.m., at The Woodlands Resort in Wilkes-Barre, will feature Deuces Wild, a dueling piano duo from Minnesota. The evening will also include appetizers, basket raffles and a cash bar. All proceeds will go toward GHP’s last big effort to reach their $100,000 goal.

“We’re about 95% of the way to our goal right now,” said Todd Gibson, GHP employee and co-chair of the fundraising committee for this project. “We’re hoping this event pushes us to the top.”

The fundraising committee, comprised of 15 – 20 employee volunteers, formed about a year ago. Led by Gibson and his co-chair, Ginnetta Reed, a senior administrative assistant for the sales department, the committee worked together to initiate various fundraising opportunities, such as bake sales, luncheons and dress down days. Two larger events were also planned, involving local sponsorships from the community.

“The committee never gave up. They just kept coming up with more and more ideas to help raise money,” said Gibson. “And it was all voluntary. It’s the hearts of our employees and the tremendous support by GHP leadership that made this all possible.”

Departments took turns cooking and serving lunch to GHP staff. Other employees provided baked goods. Most recently, employees worked together to host a purse bingo event and raised over $7,000.

Local businesses and community organizations also chipped in. Some donated monetarily, others through sponsoring events and a few donated products to be raffled off.

“The support we’ve received from GHP staff and from local organizations is phenomenal. We’re excited to give back to the Ronald McDonald House and support the kids and families who use the facilities,” said Reed.

If you’re interested in attending the Dueling Pianos event, tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. To buy tickets online, go to www.rmhdanville.com. To learn more about the feature entertainers, Deuces Wild, visit their website at wildpianos.com
