Geisinger becomes the first member of Risant Health

Modern Healthcare names Geisinger Health Plan's COO among top 25 in the country

DANVILLE, PA – Lisa I. Golden, Geisinger Health Plan’s chief operating officer, has been named among the top 25 COOs in the country by Modern Healthcare.

This awards program is designed to recognize healthcare's best chief operating officers, working in the complex business of healthcare and responsible for delivering top results in quality, safety and efficiency, all with an eye on mission and margin.

“I'm proud to have Lisa as part of the Geisinger Health Plan team,” said Steve Youso, president and CEO of Geisinger Health Plan. “She is an exemplary leader and her expertise, dedication and knowledge is instrumental in GHP’s success as we continue to provide the level of service Geisinger is known for.

Golden was named chief operating officer of GHP in August 2016 and is responsible for management, process improvement and planning within the overall insurance operations. Prior to this role, Golden served as associate vice president of program development and chief administrative officer at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Golden has spearheaded numerous successful projects in her Geisinger career, including a $97 million construction project, a transition to a new claims management system, the implementation of a platform that lets members schedule provider appointments online, and an office relocation project to accommodate a growing workforce in Northeast Pennsylvania.

“I’m honored and want to thank everyone at Geisinger for always putting patients and members first,” said Golden. “As a nurse for more than 20 years, I understand the importance of making sure our patients and members know they are getting the best quality of care.”

Joining Geisinger as a registered nurse in 1990, Golden spent 16 years at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, in a multitude of roles, such as care management coordinator, care management director and associate vice president of continuum of care/care management.

Golden received her bachelor of arts degree in nursing from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, and a master of health care administration from King’s college in Wilkes-Barre. She also holds graduate certifications in executive leadership in healthcare administration and public health administration. She received her accredited case manager certification in 2011.

She is a member and certified by the American Case Management Association (ACMA).
Golden is the 2011 recipient of the Geisinger Division of Quality and Safety Award. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Trauma System Foundation Board of Directors, the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Children’s Advocacy Center Board of Directors.

The full list of honorees is included in the May 7 issue of Modern Healthcare.

“During one of the most turbulent times in healthcare, the Chief Operating Officer has become the CEO’s right hand woman or man,” stated Aurora Aguilar, editor of Modern Healthcare. “The COO is responsible for navigating all arms of the business, standardizing practices and getting staff to buy-in. Grappling with the frenetic pace of mergers and acquisitions in the past year has made that role even more challenging, and the COO is a linchpin to success, especially in non-traditional deals.”

“This year’s class of the Top 25 COOs in Healthcare recognizes executives who have been pivotal to record growth and quality improvement for providers and payers,” Aguilar said. “Congratulations to all who made the list.”
